December 15th - qathet Museum and Archives
Students visited the local Museum and had guided tours and a scavenger hunt. Topics included the Indigenous, industrial, war, and local history.
December 14th - Swag and Wreath Making
Students gathered after school to create Swags/Wreaths from branches trimmed from Mrs. Doyle’s yard. they made amazing personal gifts to Homestays.
December 13th - Mexican Fiesta Holiday Party
Students were invited to a festive Holiday Party at the Blue Agave. They enjoyed authentic cuisine, Karaoke, presents, and more.
December 6th - Townsite Walking Tour
Students went for a walk around the beautiful Historical Townsite District (which Brooks is a part of) and explored the unique history of the old industrial hub of town. Highlights included the mill, the Hulks (old war ships), Dwight Hall, Townsite Market and more!
November 25th - Brooks Theatre Company Presents: Clue
The Brooks Theatre Company performs the classic “Clue,” for three nights to packed houses in the Max Cameron Theatre. Many International Students had major on stage and backstage parts. Bravo!
November 24th - Brooks School Assembly
The Brooks school community gathered to celebrate student achievement, and to have a great Friday morning with some fun games!
November 20th - Around Powell River Bus Excursion
Students took in various spots around town, on a hop on/hop off adventure. Highlights included Marine Avenue, the Marina, the Town Center Mall, Mowatt Bay and Willingdon Beach,
November 10th - Remembrance Day
Brooks students gathered as one to honour those that have sacrificed.
November 9th - Student Biographies
ELL International students completed an amazing class project and displayed it in the halls of Brooks. Students conducted interviews, compiled information, and wrote biographies of all of their International peers. Well done!
November 3rd and 6th - Tie Dye Workshops With Courtenay
Legendary Tie Dye artist Courtenay Pollock (Grateful Dead) teaches international students his secrets as they make their own shirts!
October 31st - Halloween
Students dressed up and celebrated the mid-week spooky holiday!
October 30th - Patricia Theatre Tour
Students walked to the Historic Townsite District and got a tour of the famous Patricia Theatre. They guided on a tour, given popcorn, and shown a film by Garry, a qathet Film Society member. The Patricia is the longest continuously running theatre in all of Canada.
October 27th - Pumpkin Carving
Students were invited to participate in pumpkin carving, pizza, and a Haunted House tour!
October 26th - Halloween Dance
Over 300 students attended the free (if you wore a costume) Halloween Dance. Put on by the Stu Cru. Featuring new lights, sound system, and a DJ!
October 23rd - Rock Climbing
Students took a class trip to the Powell River Climbing Gym, and got basic lessons. They were even able to try the ropes!
October 20th - Vancouver Island Trip
Students took the day to travel to the beautiful Vancouver Island to visit Silver Meadows Farm, the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre, and the local Coombs Market.
October 16th - Salmon Farm
Students went for a rainy Monday to the Alex Dobler Salmon Center to learn about local aquatic life, and get some hands-on expereinces.
October 14th - “Grease” Fundraiser
Students gathered in their 50’s finest to sing along to, and celebrate “Grease.” Funds raised went towards the upcoming Drama productions.
October 13th - Mount Valentine
Students hike up the scenic Mount Valentine, and took in breathtaking view of the city, Townsite, Wildwood, and Mowat Bay.
October 6th - Terry Fox Run
Terry Fox is a Canadian legend who inspired millions to raise nearly a billion dollars for cancer research. We at Brooks honoured him this October, and raised money for his cause, as a school.
